  • Box Score

The 23rd-ranked Loyola Marymount women's volleyball team swept San Francisco, 3-0, Friday night (15-9, 15-5, 15-12) at Gersten Pavilion. Sarah McFarland improved her nation-leading kill total to 529 with 21 kills in the match.

The Lions improved to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in the West Coast Conference while the loss drops San Francisco's record to 9-8 overall and 1-5 in conference action.

LMU worked its way to a 7-3 lead to start things off in game one which forced USF to take an early time-out. The Lady Dons battled back to a 7-7 tie before the Lions regained a 10-7 advantage which resulted in another USF time-out. LMU stood strong though and was sparked by freshman setter Nicole Oehlman's jump serves to take a 15-9 win.

Game two was all LMU as the Lions put up 10 unanswered points before the Lady Dons could score. LMU continued to roll pushing the score to 14-5 and eventually took a two-games to none advantage on an ace by Oehlman; she leads the team with 23 aces on the year.

The Lady Dons would not go quietly though as they put up a fight in game three after falling behind early 3-0. USF knotted the score at 3-3 and eventually took over with an 8-4 lead. LMU cut the lead to 9-6 and continued to whittle away tying the score at 10-10. The Lions jumped back on top 12-10 and never looked back as senior Allison Gustorf served LMU to 15-12 win.

USF was led by junior opposite Alyssa Jones who pounded 11 kills on .429 hitting, while senior middle hitter Laura Tinetti put away a team-high 12 kills. USF's defense struggled, but managed to hit .203 despite being outblocked 13.5-7.5.
