PORTLAND -- After a game one victory, USF looked poised to take control of
their West Coast Conference opener against the University of Portland on
Friday at the Chiles Center. Unfortunately for San Francisco, the
Pilots had other ideas as they stormed back to take a four game 9-15,
15-11, 15-11, 15-10 victory in the WCC opener for both teams. With the
loss, the Lady Dons drop to 8-4 overall, 0-1 in league play, snapping a
modest two-match winning streak.
San Francisco was led by freshman outside hitter Brittanie Budinger, who
notched a team-high 15 kills and nine digs on the night. Sophomore middle
blocker Teresa Russell and senior middle hitter Laura Tinetti each
had 12 kills on the night, while Tinetti added 13 digs and four blocks.
Russell had six block assists on the night.
USF gets an immediate opportunity to rebound on Saturday when they travel
to Spokane to face the Bulldogs of Gonzaga. Match time is at 7:05 PM in the
Martin Centre.
