USF Volleyball Dispatches Portland 3-1 in WCC Action

Nov. 15, 2007

Final Stats

(Portland, OR) - USF traveled to the Rose City Thursday and took a 3-1 (30-24, 26-30, 30-22, 30-21) West Coast Conference victory against Portland on a stormy night at the Chiles Center. The Dons (16-13, 5-8 WCC) win their first road match since September 11 and complete the season series sweep against the Pilots (7-20, 0-13 WCC).

Senior outside hitter Kristin Hasselberg continued her march to the USF career kills record with a match-high 17, finishing with 1,514 and now needs just five to surpass USF Legend of the Hilltop Brittanie Budinger (2000-03), who amassed 1,518 during her stellar career in the Green and Gold.

Freshman opposite hitter Sarah Mandala recorded 15 kills on .385 hitting to go along with three blocks, while junior outside hitter Addie Webster turned in her fourth double-double match of the season with 14 kills and 17 digs. Junior middle blockers Carly Babin and Alix Gombos each tallied nine kills apiece and combined for nine blocks - five by Gombos.

Junior setter Darcy Carroll did a nice job distributing the ball, turning in her team-leading fifth double-double match of the year with a match-high 46 assists and 16 digs. Sophomore libero Haley Carrol tallied a match-high 22 digs and senior outside hitter Brynn Maurer added 14.

San Francisco held a dominating 68-48 kills advantage. The Dons hit .213 on the night and limited the Pilots to a .132 rate.

USF returns to action in its season finale Saturday, November 17 in Spokane against Gonzaga. First serve against the Bulldogs is set for 1:00 PM at the Kennel.
