(University Place, WA) - USF women's golf wrapped up another runner-up showing - its seventh consecutive - Tuesday afternoon at the 2008 West Coast Conference Championship at Chambers Bay Golf Course. After tough weather conditions in the opening day of the event, day two was even worse as teams teed off with temperatures at 36 degrees with winds to 10 mph. San Francisco finished at 945 (307, 310, 325) on another cold, wet and blustery day. The Dons were unable to challenge No. 18 Pepperdine, which captured its seventh straight title at 905 (299, 299, 307). USF owns 10 total runner-up showings (all to Pepperdine) in the event and has finished first or second every year. The Dons won the inaugural championship in 1997 and captured the hardware once again in 2001. San Francisco beat third place Santa Clara and Portland by 37 strokes. Senior Jessica Potter, was the top finisher for the Dons in her final regular season event for the Green and Gold. Potter finished at 232 (75, 77, 80) and captured All-WCC First Team selection for the third time in her standout career. Sophomore Danielle Cvitanov finished sixth at 236 (75, 81, 80) and Natasha finished seventh at 237 (77, 78, 82) to capture All-WCC First Team honors for the first time. Sophomore Christina Stockton earned first team selection for the second straight season after placing eighth at 238 (80, 75, 83). Senior Chaneng Joe earned honorable mention selection in her final regular season event, finishing in a share of 14th place at 245 (82, 80, 83). Potter ranked second in the event with six birdies. Podmore ranked second in the field with 36 par holes. USF now must wait to see if it qualifies for NCAA Regional play. The Dons entered the week ranked No. 54 according to GolfWeek.com and have advanced to seven postseason berths in the past eight years.
