(University Place, WA) - USF women's golf ended day one of the 2008 West Coast Conference Championship second after posting a two round score of 617 (307, 310) on a wet and blustery day at Chambers Bay Golf Course. The Dons trail No. 18 Pepperdine by 19 shots after the six-time defending champions carded a 598 (299, 299) in the only sub-300 rounds turned in by the five-team field. USF owns six consecutive runner-up showings (all to Pepperdine) in the event and has finished first or second every year. The Dons won the inaugural championship in 1997 and also captured the hardware once again in 2001. San Francisco owns a 17 stroke advantage on third place Santa Clara at 634 (312, 322). Senior Jessica Potter, a two-time All-WCC honoree, is third overall at 152 (75, 77), while sophomores Natasha Podmore (77, 78) and Christina Stockton (80, 75) share fourth place at 155. Potter and Stockton shared the team birdie lead with three apiece. Podmore paced the Dons with pars on 27 holes. USF tees off for round two of the WCC Championships at 8:40 AM.
