Ria Quiazon, a current professional golfer and University of California - Berkeley golf star, has was named Head Women's Golf Coach at the University of San Francisco, on August 29, 2007.

Quiazon brings a diverse and extensive golf background to USF, having played professionally around the world. Her professional career was highlighted by competition at the highest levels of golf including the 2006 Women's World Cup in South Africa and the 2004 U.S. Women's Open. She also played for the Philippine Ladies National Team.

"We are very pleased to have Coach Quiazon lead our women's golf program," said Gore-Mann in making the announcement. "Ria has all the qualities we were looking for in a coach, she knows the game and how to promote it and shares our belief in putting the student first in student-athlete. We are excited to have her here."

Quiazon will take over a team that has enjoyed much recent success, finishing last season ranked 43rd in the nation and qualifying for the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in seven years in 2007.

"I am very excited to coach the women's team at the University of San Francisco," said Quiazon. "I believe this program has endless potential. With the current players, the great University, world-class practice facilities, the city of San Francisco and the community of support built around it, the Dons have the resources to make history."

"I believe that the players will respond to my coaching," she added. "My beliefs are that golf should be fun, but proper communication and preparation is what wins championships."

A native of the Philippines, Quiazon has called the Bay Area home for over 20 years. She started the golf program at James Logan High School in Union City, where she captained the Boys' team all four years.

She went on to captain the women's team at California and as a senior, the Golden Bears turned in a record-breaking season, winning seven tournaments including the Pac-10 and NCAA Western Regional Championships. California went from a team barely in the top-50 to a team ranked second in the nation.

As a professional, Coach Quiazon competed on the Duramed Futures, Canadian Women's, West Coast Ladies Golf, Orient Masters China Golf and Ladies Asian Golf tours.
