(San Francisco) - USF head coach Rex Walters announces the signing of
Archibishop Mitty senior Angelo Caloiaro to a National Letter of Intent
(NLI) to play basketball at the University of San Francisco for the
2008-09 season. The 6-7 forward, who lifted the Monarchs to the State
Division II title game the last two seasons, is the first recruit landed
by Walters at USF.
Walters, a San Jose native, looks forward to Caloiaro joining the Dons.
"Angelo is an outstanding individual who has done a good job in the
classroom and on the court," Walters said. "He has worked really hard to
improve as a basketball player and had a great senior season. I'm
excited about coaching him and watching him develop during his four-year
career at USF."
Caloiaro burst onto the scene for Mitty as a senior after growing six
inches following the completion of his junior campaign. The versatile
swingman moved into a featured role in his final season with the
Monarchs, ranking second on the team in scoring (16.8) and led the squad
in rebounding (8.6). For his efforts, Caloiaro was named to First Team
All-Merc, by the San Jose Mercury News and earned All-Western Catholic
Athletic League (WCAL) Second Team honors.
