2006 WEST COAST CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION GENERAL CAPSULE: Starting left fielder... will occasionally pitch out of the bullpen or mid-week... above average speed... can hit for power. AT USF (2006): Played in 61 games with 47 starts and batted .263 as a sophomore... started all three games of the West Coast Conference Championship Series... had a three-run homerun in game one (5/26)... led the team with four RBI... earned WCC Player of the Week honors for 5/22... led the team and was tied for second in the league with four triples... of 45 total hits, 22 were for extra bases... tripled and doubled at UC Riverside (2/4-5)... had two hits, an RBI and a run at Cal (5/7)... doubled and drove in four RBI against Sacramento State (2/10)... had a 3-for-3 day with a double, an RBI and a walk at Oral Roberts (3/26)... doubled against eventual NCAA Champion Oregon State (3/29)... tripled and drove in three runs in a 2-for-4 day against No. 24 San Diego (4/28)... hit first and second home runs of the season in consecutive games, including two RBI, a run scored and a walk against UC Davis (5/2) and a triple, two RBI, and two runs scored at Saint Mary's (5/5)... finished series against the Gaels 5-for-12 with a triple, a homer, two RBI and three runs (5/5-7)... had season-high four hits against Loyola Marymount (5/12) with a stolen base and a run... was 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBI, and a run against Hawai'i (5/16)... also started one game on the mound, earning a no decision in 4.0 innings at Cal (5/9), allowing just one run off one hit and struck out four Bears. AT USF (2005): As a freshman, played in 46 games with 27 starts... advanced runners at a .446 clip... had a four-game hit streak to start the season (2/8-20) and a five-game hit streak two months later (4/2-8)... went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and two doubles against Sacramento State (2/12)... turned in monster 4-for-4 day with three RBI, a double and a homerun at Gonzaga (4/8)... went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI, a triple and a homerun against Portland (5/13)... also made one relief appearance on the mound. PREP CAREER: Played baseball at Canby High School... named All-State as a senior outfielder... Pac-9 Co-Player of the Year... played for Seattle Mariners Area Code Team in Long Beach, CA... struck out 8.2 batters per 9.0 innings... also played four years of soccer earning Honorable Mention All-State selection as a senior... elected student body president as a senior. PERSONAL: Luke Edward Sommer... goal for the season is to absorb and learn as much as possible... chose USF because of the coaching staff and the high potential the team possesses... if he could be anyone for the day, it would be Coach Greg Moore, so he could really see what's going through his head... the best advice he could give to youngsters is to remember that anything is possible and never give up... father Rudi played soccer at Oregon State University and cousin Jake Posthewait is a LHP in the Colorado Rockies organization... parents are Rudi and Ann Sommer... born on June 22, 1985 in Oregon City, OR.
