SFSU Invite Schedule in PDF Format
The USF Track and Field Team will participate in it's first competition of the season when they compete as a split squad this weekend. The throwers and pole vaulters will be heading to San Francisco State to compete in the SFSU Invitational on Saturday with the men's shot put scheduled to begin at 9:00am. The rest of the team will compete at the second annual WCC Track Challenge in Malibu, CA against WCC rivals Loyola Marymount, San Diego, Santa Clara and the host Waves. Running events begin at 10:00am. Leading the women at the WCC Challenge in the 3000m will be senior Jennifer Hartford, junior Michelle Born and redshirt freshman Laurel Kleiber (Plymouth HS, WI). Hartford, who holds the school record in the 10000m, is coming off a cross country season where she placed fourth at the WCC Championship, which helped lead the women to their best finish in school history. In the middle distances freshman Nicole Bowler (Del Oro HS, CA) and Amelia Holcombe (Wilson HS, OR) will compete for the Dons in the 1500m and senior transfer Zita Mezei and freshman Arianna Edwards (Southridge HS, OR) will compete in the 800m. In the sprints the Dons will be led by sophomore Brianna Junior, junior Brynn Maurer and freshmen Gabriel Harrington (MICDS, MO) and Hannah O'Neal (Bellingham HS, WA). Junior will look to duplicate her performance from last season at the WCC Challenge when she won the 200m with a time of 28.05. Leading the men will be senior Cheyne Inman in the 3000m and 1500m, junior Alex Nelson in the 1500m and 800m and sophomore Matt Domenech in the 400m and 200m. Inman is coming off a cross country season where he became the first non Portland runner to claim the individual WCC title in 28 years. Nelson won both the 1500m and 800m last year at the WCC Challenge and would go on to set the school records in both events during the season. Leading the Dons in the throws at the SFSU Invitational will be sophomores Alex Irani and A.J. Fabrizio, along with freshmen Alexander McHenry (Kennedy HS, WA), Oliver Kirkeby (Claremont HS, CA), Conner McNamara (Immaculata HS, NJ) and JC transfer Alex Delgadillo (Gleandale CC, CA), along with sophomore Alex McIntosh and freshmen Alex Gibbs (Servite HS, CA) in the pole vault. McIntosh set the school record last year in the pole vault with a mark of 4.25m and Irani placed fifth in the shot put and eighth in the discus for the Dons at the Independent Conference Championship.
